Having been selected earlier in the season, Xavier McBain represented Vic Country at the National Country Championships in Toowoomba this august.
Xavier is a current Men’s 1s player at La Trobe University Hockey Club and has also represented La Trobe University at Australian University Games.
The Victorian squad finished with a bronze, and only narrowly lost to the eventual champions NSW in the Semi Final.
For Xavier, at only 20 years old, it was a tremendous experience for him. “To represent my state at senior level and go away for a fortnight was surreal. The high standard of hockey and professionalism of the team during the tournament and also leading up to the tournament where we trained in Bendigo and in Melbourne was an eye opener for me and helped me improve my hockey.”
Xavier, under coach Chris Vaughan (also La Trobe University Hockey Club Men’s 1s player), was thrusted into the midfield where he played the entire week against the some of the best in the country.
The experience will further help Xavier become a future superstar at the club and we congratulate him on his efforts on making the state team in 2014.
