Greg Van Meeuwen has reached another milestone in his decorated career by winning Gold at the Hockey Masters World Cup in the Over 45s Division in Rotterham, Netherlands.

The Gold Medal Match against the old foe England was deadlocked at 3 all at full time and went into a one on one shoot out. The Australian team remained composed and took the shoot out 5-4. Judging by Greg’s Snapchats, they celebrated long and hard into the night.
The victory was even sweeter with wife Sue and children Ella and Jackson travelling over to Europe to witness the win (pictured above). The family enjoyed the following day watching the Men’s national team also win gold and they will now spend some time relaxing in Europe. Greg was extremely jubilant when he spoke to us. “It’s a fantastic feeling being crowned world champions, having a gold medal around my neck and my family travelling halfway around the world to be here, this is almost as good as the Vet’s end of season trip to Pyalong!”

All of us from La Trobe University Hockey Club would like to congratulate Greg on a wonderful achievement and we look forward to his return in the next few weeks where he will resume coaching the Men’s Vic League squad.
