Young Gunners Star at Junior State Championships

La Trobe University Hockey Club was well represented at the recent Junior State Championships. Playing in regional Victoria for four days, the girls were based in Bendigo whilst the boys played in Shepparton in conditions described as artic. The Under 13 and 15 Girls and 15 Boys finished 7th whilst Matt Cook’s Under 18s Boys won bronze.

The La Trobe players who were selected to represent the North West Tigers are Hollie and Ava Raso, Thyra Abolencia, Olivia Scira, Jo and Mitch Money, Lily Dowling, Stella Bernardi (injured), Beth Cairns-Cowan, and Matt Cook. On top of this, Jo Money was selected as Captain of the Under 13 girls and Women’s Vic League player Alex Shortis was selected to umpire the tournament.

Our juniors program, now in its 12th year has gone from strength to strength, with six of our young  Gunners currently a part of the senior Vic League squad. The club is extremely proud of our kids on their efforts  across the tournament as well as the tireless contribution of our coaches, junior committee and parents who’ve shaped our junior program into an elite one. Also a big shout out to the parents who took time off work to drive and stay up in Bendigo and Shepparton to support the kids.

Congratulations to all players who represented the club and we look forward to seeing them back on the park in the red and white for the Gunners!
