After weeks of speculation, La Trobe University Hockey Club is pleased to announce its 2013 Men’s 1sts captain is Matthew Zull. Since crossing over from Brunswick/Greensborough, Matthew has been a dominate player in the men’s 1sts with his good speed and slick skills. His massive efforts during the 2013 preseason made his selection a no brainer. “Matthew is a quality player, has fine leadership skills and gained the respect of the La Trobe community after some big efforts at Australian University Games which lead to him being named our player of the tournament- a massive honour” said fellow teammate David Usher. At a press conference held earlier in the day, Matthew said “there have been some great captains of the club in the past and I’m very fortunate enough that the committee, my teammates and Greg put their faith in me. Basically they got around me! I’m looking forward to celebrating this achievement with a strategically placed tattoo”.
Matthew will combine his captaincy of the new look Men’s 1sts with his hip-hop music career with the DYE, who are currently touring Australia. The new appointment comes after Stuart Boyd stepped down from the role to focus more on winning the Thursday night raffle.
