Grand Final Results

Fantastic weather kicked off a big day for the La Trobe University Hockey Club, with two big games for the Gunners Men’s 1s and 2s.

Metro 2 North

Kicking off the day were our Men’s 2s out at Melbourne High against Old Yarra Valley. A tough game was expected after going into overtime in the first round of finals, but an early goal for the Gunners put the boys in a good position. A few cards to both teams made for a few tense moments, but a second goal early in the second half sealed the game and the boys picked up the Metro 2 North Premiership, and a promotion into Metro 1 after finishing top of the ladder.

State League 4

After the win from our Men’s 2s, the crowd quickly booted across the city to the State Hockey Centre to watch our Men’s 1s play against CV Blazers. A slow start saw a fairly even game, until the Gunners put in the first goal and the rest just followed. CV Blazers managed to slip one past the keeper, but in the end the Gunners were just too strong walking away with a 6-1 win, a Premiership flag and a promotion into State League 3 after finishing top of the ladder.

The Women’s 1s were unlucky not to make it to the Grand Final after finishing on top of the State League 3 ladder, but still earned themselves a promotion into State League 2 for the 2012 season. Also unlucky were the Men’s 4s and 5s, both who had been promoted in the previous season who were knocked out just before finals.

Overall, a fantastic year for the Gunners on the field.
