The first round of finals saw five senior La Trobe University Hockey Club teams taking place.
Men’s State League 4
After finishing top of the ladder in State League 4, the Men have already earned themselves a promotion to State League 3 in 2012. The first round of finals saw the boys up against Mornington at the State Hockey Centre. Walking away with a 5-0 win, the Men progress through to the Grand Final in two weeks.
Women’s State League 3
Similar to the Men’s 1s with a strong season, after finishing on top of the ladder in State League 3, the Women progress to State League 2 next season. In a tough first game against Melbourne University, the girls went down 0-3 a Footscray. They play next weekend on Sunday at the State Hockey Centre at midday.
Men’s Metro 2 North
After not dropping a point for the whole season, the Men’s 2s secured themselves a position in Metro 1 in 2012. The boys played Old Yarra Valley at La Trobe in a tough game, seeing the opposition scoring the first goal and playing most of the first half 0-1 down. A goal just before half time brought the scores even and with no scores in the second half the game went into overtime. With just minutes to go, the boys put away their second goal finishing the game on 2-1, securing themselves a place in the Grand Final in two weeks.
Men’s Metro 3 North
Finishing third on the ladder after a promotion in 2010, the 4s played a strong game against Hawthorn at La Trobe, finishing on 4-1. The boys play next weekend on Saturday against Yarra Valley for a place in the Grand Final.
Men’s Metro 3 West
Like the 4s, the 5s finished third after a promotion from Metro 4 in 2010. Playing at home against Melbourne University, the game finished at 3-1. Next weekend the boys will play against Brunswick on Saturday.
