Ross Erickson Celebrates 50 Years at the Gunners

As La Trobe University Hockey Club looks forward to a return to hockey this year, we pause to reflect on the magnificent achievement of Ross Erickson, who this year celebrates his 50 year anniversary with the Gunners.

From 1971, in the club’s fifth year, Ross has been a member of this club. Each of us owe him and his fellow male and female team mates from the early days a big thank you for the trail they blazed.

Ross has seen and done it all – from playing, coaching, state representation in Division 2 Over 50s, attending InterVarsity, club administration and more recently supporting and managing teams. He is a life member and the club’s only recipient of the President’s Plate.

In celebration of his 50th Anniversary, in 2021 the club launched the Ross Erickson Student Scholarship, in appreciation of Ross’s generous spirit and ongoing support of La Trobe students.

In March 2021, life members Craig Cameron and Peter Shackleton interviewed Ross about his half century at the club.

So when you see Ross at a game this year, be sure to say “Hi” and buy him a drink. Before you know it, he will have returned the favour and a story will have begun.

We salute you Ross, your wife Jenny and the Erickson family, and thank you for 50 wonderful years.

Good health our friend.
