Van Meeuwen selected for 2018 World Cup in Spain

The La Trobe University Hockey Club is excited to announce three time Best & Fairest winner and premiership player Greg Van Meeuwen has been selected in the Over 50’s  Australian Masters team.

Held at the famous Club Egara, in Terrassa Spain, Greg will be representing Australia as part of the Over 50’s team at the World Cup from July 27 until August 5, 2018. Greg has previously represented in Australia at the World Cup, winning Gold in front of his family back in 2014. Unfortunately for us, Greg is setting off to Europe this week where he will hook up with the national team to prepare for the tournament. This year he will have the added incentive of three LTUHC players over Spain in the crowds, as well as his wife, Sue.

Greg is adamant gold is within reach with this year’s teams talent. “It’s always an honour to represent my country but especially at the World Cup against the best teams in the world. The notoriously tough pre-season at LTUHC has my body in the perfect condition for the harsh Spanish sun. It’s a pity I miss out on Cocktail Party, but winning Gold will make up for it.”

Sounds like we write the same article every year but La Trobe University Hockey Club would like to wish Greg all the best for the World Cup, and no matter what medal he comes home with, he has done the club very proud.
