Gunners Support Men’s Health Week

This week the La Trobe University Hockey Club is celebrating our very first Men’s Health Week. The week is intended to raise awareness and help educate everyone on depression and how we can help ourselves and each other, as we are all in it together.

On Saturday the 30th of July, following home gameday at the Cauldron, we will be hosting a guest speaker to talk through the challenges of mental health. Harry Zachariou will share his story and how he struggled with mental health issues.

The club is putting the event on for free. A donation box will be available with proceeds going to BeyondBlue. Food and drinks will be availiable from the canteen.

The event will is open to all and courage all members, parents, supporters and friends to join.

More on Mental Health from BeyondBlue
Men are known for bottling things up. But when you’re feeling down, taking action to call in extra support is the responsible thing to do.

On average, one in eight men will experience depression and one in five men will experience anxiety at some stage of their lives.

Blokes make up an average six out of every eight suicides every single day in Australia. The number of men who die by suicide in Australia every year is nearly double the national road toll.

Effectively managing your mental health can give you significant improvements in your quality of life, increase your capacity to support your family and your mates, and let you perform at your best.
