Gunners selected for National Country Championships

The club would like to congratulate James Thomson and Zach Coulton on their Victorian Country Selection for the National Championships. The two Men’s 1sts players, in their first year at the club, had dominate performances at the recent Victorian Country Championships and in the national championships in 2016, which earned them their selection in the event to take place in Townsville later this year.

James, originally from Kyabram and played for Echuca Hockey Club, is a versatile player who plays as a rebounding half back and mid-fielder but will most likely play in the middle for Victoria. Zach, from Bairnsdale and played hockey at Nagle College, is a striker for La Trobe and previously for Victoria.

Over the past 50 years, the La Trobe University Hockey Club has had a proud history of fostering country players who have come to Melbourne to complete tertiary studies, to work or to further their hockey career. We wish James and Zach all the best for the tournament and imagine this is just a stepping stone for bigger things to come.

The La Trobe Univeristy Hockey Club Foundation has contributed $500 to each player to help subsidise the cost of playing.
