The La Trobe University Hockey Club is pleased to announce Rylie Wilcox has been selected in the North West Metro Tigers team that will compete in the 2014 Hockey Victoria Zone Challenge Under 12 Girls Competition, beginning November 15th.
Rylie becomes the first player in the history of the Club to play in the Zone Challenge while being a member of our Juniors Program, a great achievement. She joins two former LTUHC Junior members in the Tigers, her sister Taysen Wilcox and Hannah Eldridge.
At nine years of age, Rylie is the youngest member of the Tigers and the youngest girl in the competition (easily the smallest!). What she lacks in height and size, she makes up for in speed, skill and toughness. Rylie has been at the Club since 2010 and has played in U9’s Mixed and U10’s Girls. She will be a handy little utility player for the Tigers and is aiming to score a few goals (at least more than her sister!).
Taysen is one of the older players in the Tigers and will play Right Wing. Taysen was one of the original junior members in LTUHC’s fledgling Junior Program that started in 2009 and played for two years in the Under 9’s. She has played for the U13’s Girls Tigers in the past two Junior State Championships and was also in the girls Tigers team in the inaugural U12 Girls Zone Challenge Competition in 2013. She had a great U12’s Girls season for Yarra Valley in 2014 scoring 18 goals and taking out the team Best and Fairest award. She’s aiming to have a big Zone Challenge!
This will be Hannah’s first time representing the Tigers. Hannah was also one of the original junior members in LTUHC’s fledgling Junior Program and played for five years in the U9’s and U10’s before moving over to Essendon to play in their U12’s Mixed Pennant team. Hannah will most likely play in the mid field.
These selections are a demonstration of the success of the La Trobe University Hockey Club’s Juniors Program, which continues to go from strength to strength. Expecting the biggest intake ever in Junior Members, the Club is looking forward to a great 2015.
Good luck to the girls playing in this weekend’s Zone Challenge! Go Tigers!
