Six Gunners Teams Qualify For Finals

At the conclusion of a hugely successful 2013 winter season, the La Trobe University Hockey Club sees six teams prepare for finals.

Both the Women and Men’s first XI, while not qualifying for finals, had strong seasons, particularly being promoted into VicLeague 1 in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Not only did the two teams remain competitive throughout the season, but only missed out on finals by points in the last few games.

The Men and Women’s Reserves also faced a challenging season having been promoted out of Metro 1 at the end of last year, despite this the Women finishing 3rd on the ladder and will compete in the Kew this weekend.

Other finals contenders include the Men’s 3s (finishing 2nd in Metro 2 North), the Men’s 5s (finishing 1st in Metro 3 Outer Easter), the Men’s 6s (finishing 2nd in Metro 3 North) and the Women’s 4s (finishing 2nd in Metro 2 North West).

The Men’s 35+ Masters also finished 2nd in the C North/West competition and in their Semi Final on Monday night lost to Powerhouse in extra time (3-4). With a second chance, next week they will play against Footscray in the Preliminary Finals.
