The La Trobe University Hockey Club is excited to announce that two stalwarts of the club have been recognised for their outstanding commitment and dedication to community based sport.
Belinda Blackburn and Sarah Dowling (pictured left), were both awarded Australian Volunteering Certificates, celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the International Year of the Volunteers. They were presented their certificates by the Hon Martin Ferguson MHR in a special awards ceremony on Friday the 9th of December.
“It is a great reflection on the La Trobe University Hockey Club that people such as Belinda and Sarah love volunteering their own time to help the club continue to thrive” La Trobe University Hockey Club President Zac Martin said.
“Belinda and Sarah have nearly 40 years of service between them at the club.”
Belinda Blackburn was the first female Life Member at the La Trobe University Hockey club. She has held every position on the committee, including President and Treasurer. Sarah Dowling is the only other female Life Member at the club and is looking forward to a record seventh year as the Secretary of the club in 2012.
Both Belinda and Sarah have assisted during their 40 years of service in a variety of roles including committee functions, coaching, fundraising BBQs, social coordination and player recruitment. They are a great reflection on how sport at La Trobe can bring people together and make life long friendships.
“The recognition of Belinda and Sarah is something that our club is very proud of and is an excellent reflection on Sport at La Trobe University.”
