Come down to KP Hardiman Reserve on Saturday 17 June to help us celebrate Pride Round and to cheer on your favourite Gunners team.
Sport and exercise play a big role in Australia’s culture. The physical, mental and social benefits of participation in sport are immense. In a country with sport at its heart, everyone should have a right to participate in sport free from discrimination.
However, research shows that 80% of people have witnessed or experienced discrimination in sport based on sexuality. Additionally, fewer LGBTQIA+ people participate in sport when compared to their heterosexual and cisgender counterparts.
At La Trobe University Hockey Club we believe community sport is a place where every LGBTQIA+ person feels included, accepted and proud to be who they are. This goes beyond celebrating Pride Round. Welcoming and inclusive clubs play a vital role in addressing the participation gaps experienced by the LGBTQIA+ community. It is something that La Trobe University Hockey Club works towards every day.
Pride Round is another big round for the Gunners with four teams playing on the day:
12:30pm – Men’s 2s vs Craigieburn
2:00pm – Men’s 1s vs Craigieburn
3:30pm – Women’s 1s vs ECHO
5:00pm – Women’s 2s vs Craigieburn
All teams will be celebrating the round in their pride socks. There is also a bake sale – with some tasty goodies everyone is bound to enjoy. Get into the Pride sprit and bring down your furry best friend with prizes on offer for the best dress supporter and pooch on the day!
All funds raised during Pride round in 2023 will go to LGBTQIA+ youth charity Minus18. Minus18 is Australia’s organisation for LGBTQIA+ youth. It aims to improve the health and wellbeing of, and provide a safe environment for, same sex attracted and gender diverse young people in Australia. It seeks to empower them to feel comfortable and confident in their sense of identity, assisting them to grow as happy, healthy individuals well into the future.
