Two Gunners Selected for Victorian Country Nationals

The club would like to congratulate Xavier McBain and Molly Wilmott on their Victorian Country Selection for the National Championships. The duo, both originally from Shepparton, had strong performances at the recent Victorian Country Championships representing Goulburn Valley which earned them their selection in the event to take place in Wollongong later this year.

Molly, the younger cousin of 1s Vice Captain Liz Baglin, is in her first year at the club. Molly is a versatile player who covers any spot on the field but has been used mainly as a striker and half. She is extremely strong over the ball, has an accurate hit and reads the play very well.
Xavier, who recently won a Half Blue Award at the University, will be representing Victoria Country for the second year in a row. Xavier is renown for his slick individual skills and has worked incredibly hard in the preseason to improve his work-rate.

Over the past 48 years, the La Trobe University Hockey Club has had a proud history of fostering country players who have come to Melbourne to complete tertiary studies, to work or to further their hockey career. We wish Xavier and Molly all the best for the tournament and imagine this is just a stepping stone for bigger things to come.

The La Trobe Univeristy Hockey Club Foundation has contributed $500 to each player to help subsidise the cost of playing.
