The La Trobe University Hockey Club celebrate Pride Round this week. This has been a cause we have been supporting since 2010.
Round 15 has been dedicated toward the cause – participating in the Australian Sports Commission initiative, pioneered by Hockey Victoria and Hockey Australia.
Through the week during 25th-31st July, the club will celebrate and show our support in advocating for inclusive and diverse membership. Research shows that sport is a significant site of homophobic harassment, discrimination and exclusion and this needs to change.
On Saturday the 30th of July, our Vic League Squads will be celebrating the round by wearing rainbow socks, having the ground decorated and a fundraising bake sale with proceeds going to Proud2Play. Both Men’s and Women’s 1sts games will have medals awarded to a player from each team (home and away), that displays inclusive attitude,
courage, leadership and fair play on the field.
There is no place at our club, in hockey, in sports or our society for discrimination. Homophobia and transphobia needs to be eliminated ASAP. Lets stand up against it. At La Trobe, we welcome everyone and we celebrate diversity. Everyone love everyone.
