La Trobe University Hockey Club is pleased to welcome all new players joining in the 2020 season. Whether you’re a new La Trobe Student, a student at another institution, a Junior, a Master/Veteran, an elite player, a social player, from overseas or a local player – we’re excited for you to come down for a hit and play for The Gunners.
We are the premier club in the northern suburbs with six Men’s teams and five Women’s Senior teams ranging from the highly competitive VicLeague 1 to social Metro grades, accommodating all skill and commitment levels. We also have beginner level Hookin2Hockey up to U16s as well as three Masters teams.
We are a diverse club with a good mix of students, alumni and players from the local area and we are the largest female sporting club at La Trobe. In 2015, we were awarded the title of Best Sports Club at the La Trobe University. We also have the lowest fees in Melbourne, at least $200 cheaper than neighbouring clubs. Our excellent social calendar is the envy of all hockey clubs in Victoria, as seen on our you can see our 2020 Event Calendar.
Training is held at KP Hardiman Reserve from 7pm Tuesday and Thursdays (times alternate each night for men and women), which is located two tram stops from the main university campus on Plenty Road. After each training session we have hot food and cold drinks in the rooms, with our New Players Night on March 12 where there will be free pizza, finger food and drinks for all players and all the new players can meet and greet the players and coaches off the field.
If you’re interested in playing or want to find out more information about the club, please contact us and/or show up to training and find one of the coaches. For more information, read about playing Seniors, Juniors or Masters.
Testimonies
“Rocking up to my first training session at La Trobe, I have to admit I was pretty nervous. Every player made a conscious effort to make myself and all other new members feel welcome. Simple things such as New Player’s Night and Thursday food in the club rooms really made it easy to meet my new club members and get comfortable in the club. The social nature of the club, and general positive atmosphere is definitely something to be proud of. I can safely say La Trobe takes out first prize for hosting the best social events of any club.” – Tess Torr
“I moved from the country to La Trobe and I didn’t have a single friend or a social life. Since I joined the club, I’ve become a big player among the women, I’m on the doorlist at every nightclub in Melbourne and my hockey skills and rig have slightly improved as a result.” – Dylan Rochford
“I moved to northern Melbourne and four months later decided it was time to find a new hockey team. I’d heard that La Trobe Uni Hockey Club was really welcoming and has lots of teams so I sent out an email and got a fast reply. I’ve now got a new, awesome team and everybody has made me feel really welcome.” – Chelsea Ferguson
“I heartily endorse this event or product.” – Krusty the Klown
