Matt Cook selected in Victorian team

The club would like to congratulate Matt Cook on his selection in the Under 13s State team for the National Championships in Perth later this year. Matt becomes the first player from our newly formed junior program to be selected in a State side.

Matt has been with La Trobe University Hockey Club since the introduction of the Junior program. Matt first played for the club in the under 9s as a six year old and quickly picked the game up, progressing through the under 9s, 10s, 12s and 14s, where he won back to back premierships in the U12s and U14s. He currently Captains the under 14s and in the last two years played in the Junior State Championships.

Matt is a fast, hard working player, who hits a lot of goals with his dangerous tomahawk but this year rounded his game and working hard on his defensive skills. On top of his amazing skills, Matt also helps out around the club with umpiring and coaching younger juniors.

His parents, Gabby and long term La Trobe player, Lindsay Cook are extremely proud and thankful to the club.

“Thanks from us to the Club, in particular Mike Wilcox and Ken Parkin, for the support of the junior’s program over the years, allowing Matt to achieve this opportunity to play for Victoria.”

Congratulations again Matt on your selection, we are extremely proud to see one of our foundation players of our junior program come through the ranks and shine on the big stage. Congratulations to our hard working junior committee and coaches on their efforts; Matt’s selection is testament that the club is delivering a high quality junior program for the northern suburbs.
