April Player of the Month – Jess Boyd

Boydi

New to the La Trobe University Hockey Club for 2016 is our Player of the Month, thanks to the support of sponsor Jetts 24 Hour Fitness. The monthly award will be given to the member who excelled most on the training track and game day. The winner receives a Jetts Pack, club drink bottle and stubbie holder.

Naming the inaugural Player of the Month was a tough decision. With dozens of players performing well at games and training each week we were forced to split the club in two just to narrow the field. So this month, we recognise the prowess of the La Trobe University Hockey Club Women’s VicLeague squad.

In a lot of ways, that didn’t make the decision any easier. But one player took it on themselves to make things a bit easier for selectors. A player who has donned the Red and the White at the highest levels for years. A player who is known for their goal scoring prowess, including the five they have already smashed to hold a position as the club’s equal fourth highest goal scorer of the season so far.

A player named Jess Boyd. Or Boydi to most of us.

With a series of strong games already under the belt this season, Boydi’s efforts as the Women’s 1s Centre Forward have dragged her side from the brink of a 2-0 loss against Knox to a 2-2 draw. Over the past weekend Boydi added to her haul with another brace against Casey, despite two opposition players trying to mark her out of the match.

We trust you will join us in congratulating Boydi and, if you’re ever playing in the 1s, sending the ball her way.
