La Trobe University Hockey Club Under 12s – 2015 Premiers

Following a very successful period for the club over the past decade, the La Trobe University Hockey Club made a commitment to build a Juniors program. Starting small with a single Hookin2Hockey team, the program has continued to go from strength to strength, with more than 100 junior members registered in 2015.

Helmed this year by Mark Matthews, Junior’s Manager, and Peter Burak, Life Member and Junior’s Coach, the club experienced not only phenomenal growth, but a piece of history winning our first ever Junior Premiership.

The Under 12 Mixed (District North West) team finished top of the ladder undefeated during the season, and last week played Essendon in the Preliminary Final. The Gunners dominated the field and finished comfortably with a 6-0 win.

This weekend the Grand Final took place at Footscray against second on the ladder Melton. The tough game saw Melton score first and hold the lead for the first half, until a goal scored after the siren during a short corner equalised for La Trobe.

The second half saw the team come together, scoring three times to walk away with a 4-1 win and the premiership flag.
