International Players

La Trobe University Hockey Club is based in Melbourne, Australia with Men’s and Women’s teams in various grades in Victoria. Both our Men’s and Women’s 1s teams compete in VicLeague 1.

Our club has had a proud history of hosting overseas player at all levels. In recent times, we’ve had German, Dutch, English, Canadian and Indian players fill spots at the Club. Overseas students also have the opportunity to compete in Southern University Games and Australian University Games, the premier competition of university sport in Australia with over 5,000 students competing from all over Australia. Our club has access to immigration lawyers to assist in VISA applications (even permanent residency in some cases) and is well connected with local private schools in obtaining umpiring and coaching work. Overseas visitors with relevant qualifications can also be assisted in obtaining employment.

Our Club is located in northern Melbourne with public transport at our door step. In 2013, the Club  will host six Men’s teams and five Women’s teams of all playing standards.  Our season runs from April until September with indoor hockey and a social summer competition in the off season.

Off the field, our club has a vibrant social calendar which includes pub crawls, trips to our famous snow and beach resorts, cocktail parties and our tour interstate to compete in an elite three day Easter Carnival against teams all over Australia. Our coaching panel includes two Australian representatives and players at our club have had National League experience in the UK and experience in the Australian Hockey League, the top league in Australia.

Please contact us if you require further information about opportunities to play at the club. You don’t need to be a student to play.

“The La Trobe University Hockey Club is the most fun and warm club in Melbourne to play as an international. From the first moment you like part of the team, whether you play at the highest level or just on a recreational level. For me it was the best way to get to know a lot of people very fast. And did I mention the social functions and hockey carnival trips? Always great fun too!”

“If you’re looking for the perfect balance between hockey and social functions, the La Trobe University Hockey is the best choice in Melbourne. During the year their many events helped me meet new people and make friends (Albury Easter Hockey Carnival, Pub Crawl, Cocktail Party, 45th Anniversary Ball, Last Round Pub Night, Vote Count and Presentation Night). I had a great year and would encourage you to join this club. Go Gunners!

PS: The ratio of 44.44% between social functions and number of rounds (eight function and 18 rounds  reminds me of German efficiency – In the Olympic final against Australia we scored 4 goals from 9 shots. ”

Go Gunners!
