Cook and Burak selected for National Under 15s Championships

La Trobe University Hockey Club would like to congratulate Matt Cook and Flynn Burak on their selection in the Under 15 Boys Victorian Hockey Teams for the 2019 Australian Hockey Championships, held in Narellan NSW, from April 8-14.

Both families are synonymous around the club with parents having playing for the Gunners for decades. Matt and Flynn have already made a name for themselves with an illustrious list of hockey achievements at their young age. Both players are foundation members of our junior program and have been vital members in our two junior premierships as well as participating the Junior State Championships the last few years. Both have been a regular players in the Men’s Seniors, making their debuts in the VicLeague Mens 1’s last year and this year are looking to take on major roles in the team.

Junior coach and Men’s 1s Vice Captain Dylan Den Hartog is extremely proud to see both get selected. “Matt is a quick and elusive striker, a lot quicker than his dad, with a hard tomahawk whilst Flynn is a natural centre half and a great user of the ball, setting up players from the back half. In the past 12 months, they’ve both put their hand up to play other roles in the team so they’ve played up forward and in defensive which has really rounded their game and given them different responsibilities. I’m super proud of the boys”.

Matt and Flynn have been in our junior program from day one back in 2009 and they are great examples of our juniors thriving at the top level. Both have worked extremely hard in the off season, doing their own training, all the Men’s preseason as well as the state academy programs. It’s a credit to both boys on their hard work and also to our junior committee and coaches on delivering a highly successful junior program that allows our kids to excel. Best of luck boys for the tournament and we are extremely proud of your efforts.
