Umpiring Development Program

The La Trobe University Hockey Club is pleased to announce its Umpiring Development Program, a new initiative in 2019 to identify, mentor and skill the next generation of umpires and develop a culture of appreciation at the Club.

The program has two audiences:

INTERESTED IN BECOMING AN UMPIRE?
This is for members of all ages who have ever considered umpiring. Whether it’s to contribute back to the club, keep up your fitness or create a new source of income – umpiring is a rewarding job… but we know it can be daunting!

The Umpiring Development Program is designed to work with members over time, providing one-on-one mentoring and training from experienced umpires. They’ll work closely with you on and off the field, across disciplines such as knowledge and execution of rules, communication, confidence, managing players, field position and everything you need to know to umpire successfully.

The program begins your learning in a casual, fun environment – with the option to continue on to a more serious pathway to receive official HV accreditation, if you choose. Whether you want to take on more games, or just feel confident picking up the whistle, this program is for you!

INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE RULES AND AN UMPIRE’S PERSPECTIVE?
The Umpiring Development Program is not just about training new umpires, but creating a culture of appreciation, and nurturing a greater understanding of the rules.

Hear first hand from an accredited umpire to learn about common mistakes players make, and how best to work with an umpire to improve your hockey.

To learn more about either aspect of the program, including dates and how you can participate, please contact Umpiring Coordinator Ella Zielinski, at umpiring@latrobeunihockey.com
